The study of race in economics, and other social sciences AuthorsArun Advani, Elliott Ash, David Cai, Imran Rasul Completion Time5 Minutes Close DateAug. 17, 2020 DisciplineEconomics FieldEconomics Of Education CountryOnline (many countries) Abstract The Black Lives Matter protests have increased interest in whether and how issues of ethnicity and race are studied in economics and other social sciences. We are interested in understanding perceptions of how much race-related research has been published in economics journals, whether this has changed over time, and how it compares to the amount of race-related research published in other social sciences. We have used an algorithm to identify such research in published articles in economics, sociology, political science and psychology from 1980 to 2020. The findings of this study – alongside these perceptions – will be presented at a special session of the Econometric Society World Congress on August 19th, titled, ‘What can economics do for racial justice?’
Researchers from any discipline, as well as non-academics, are encouraged to complete the five minute survey.
